The tracks of an excavator are the parts responsible for transporting and hauling weight mounted on the excavator's chassis, and are very important to the performance of the excavator. Many customers prefer wider tracks because they feel that wider tracks will improve the stability of the excavator, not only that, there are many more advantages of wider tracks as follows:
1. Advantages Of Wide Tracks
a. Provide larger grounding area: Wide track can provide a larger grounding area, so that the excavator can ensure enough compaction area even under the bad working conditions such as soft mud or uneven ground, which improves the stability of the excavator and the safety of operation.
b. Improve traction and reduce settlement depth: Wide tracks can increase the traction force of the excavator and reduce the settling depth, thus improving the passability and operation efficiency of the excavator. Wide tracks can also reduce the depth of settlement, preventing the excavator from sliding into a ditch or getting stuck.
c. Increased load carrying capacity: As wide tracks have a larger grounding area, they can carry more weight. When the excavator is lifting heavy objects or moving heavy objects, it can reduce the pressure and increase the carrying capacity.
d. Reduced maintenance costs: Wide tracks can reduce wear and prolong the service life, thus reducing the maintenance cost of the excavator.
e. Improved passability: During driving, wider tracks can grip the ground better and reduce the impact on the ground, thus improving the ability of the excavator to pass through heavy obstacles. In addition, track width can also improve the passing ability of the excavator on complex surfaces such as wet, muddy, sandy and gravelly roads.
2. Range Of Application For Wide Tracks
Although wide tracks are advantageous in many conditions, there are some situations where they are not suitable. For example, in narrow work areas or in shallow soils, wide tracks may disturb the surrounding soil or cause the ground to shift.
3. Optional Track Size
Most 20 tonne excavators are now application with 600mm wide tracks and can now be optionally fitted with 800mm tracks for different jobs.
